    April — The Trainer Who Changed My Life  I recently realized that I’ve been training with April for nine years, ever since I first met her in 2015. When I began, I had no confidence in my ability to lift weights or even finish a 1000-meter run.  One memory has stayed with me all these years: during an outdoor session, April asked me to do a 60-meter sprint to get my heart rate up. After I finished, she told me, “You did a good job. You’re good at running.” It was the first time in my life anyone had ever said that to me, and it gave me the motivation to keep going on my fitness journey.  I truly believe meeting April was the universe’s message to bring the right person into my life.     A 49 year old schlub/dad bod took a look in the mirror and asked himself “when are you going to do something about that?”.  April helped me do something about that immediately. Through enthusiastic coaching, creative training techniques, diet advice, patience, persistence and injury avoidance I now, at 57 years old, have almost bottomless endurance and have become healthier and stronger than 99% of my demographic.  Comparison to others isn’t the name of the game but living this short life in the best physical condition you can be is a gift we can give ourselves.  Physical conditioning begets peace in the mind too…this stuff is holistic.  My biggest challenge is motivation and I can always count on April to book us in and I happily get to show up brainless because she does all the thinking. 3 minutes of running in the beginning was a near death experience.  Five half-marathons later (love ‘em or hate ‘em) 3 minutes of running is as easy as making a cup of tea…bu!
